5 Reasons why Online Customer Reviews Are Important For Your Business

Local SEO Series - Reasons why Online Customer Reviews Are Important For Your Business

Welcome to the third edition of our local blogpost SEO series. This blog post will focus on the importance of online customer reviews.

In 2019 your brand's reputation has never been more important. Why you ask? Because, it takes a long time to build and can be taken away in a flash. Effective use of online customers reviews is one of the ways to manage your brand’s reputation.

Most people aren’t prepared to buy anything; unless they’ve received a personal recommendation or gone online to read reviews about the brand to get. If you’re in doubt … check out these stats:

  • 93% of local consumers use reviews to determine if a local business is good or bad (BrightLocal, 2017)
  • 72% of customers don't take action until they have read reviews (Testimonial Engine)
  • 92% of B2B buyers are more likely to purchase after reading a trusted review (G2 Crowd and Heinz Marketing, 2017)
  • Having five reviews results in purchase likelihood increasing by a factor of almost four times (Spiegel Research Center, 2017)

Benefits of Online Customer Reviews:

  • It's free – each review you get from a customer online is free and increases awareness of your brand.
  • Rank higher in search engine results – if you want to rank higher in search engines, online reviews are one of the factors to help you appear in the Google Local Pack listing. So, register your Google My Business Listing profile and start to, if you haven’t done so already.
  • Build brand credibility and trust – These day people are a lot more dubious then they used to be and don’t want to be sold to. As a result, people are more trusting of strangers providing feedback on their experience. Customers who experience an enjoyable customer journey with your company who share their positive experience with others are likely to garner trust and credibility.
  • Constructive feedback – Whether we like it or not, negative feedback can provide fantastic opportunities for your company to change or improve performance.

For example; if customers comment negatively about a particular aspect of your brand or service, this allows you to investigate and provide a solution for an area of your business that you may not have recognised needing improvement.
  • Understand your customers - Online reviews provide a great opportunity to find out what your customers want, allowing you to respond directly to feedback.

Disadvantages of Online Customer Reviews:

  • Drives negative feedback which could impact potential customers buying from your brand
  • Some third-party online review customer websites charge you to use their service
  • You need to manage your reviews and respond to customers when required.
